Do these people have a go bag or what? Packing essentials!

What’s in store?

  • The gear to get you there.
  • In-flight life savers.
  • Adventure must-haves.

The gear.

Grabbing my Away Everywhere Bag always gives a lil thrill that the next adventure is coming. This bag has proven its value as a perfect companion to house my laptop, a meaty book, sleep gear, toiletries, and you guessed it… an abundance of snacks. Snagging it in cobalt blue was just the cherry on top.

You’re right, I didn’t mention a water bottle, and there really isn’t a great spot for one in or on this bag. That’s gravy for us because Jon’s Patagonia Craigsmith Pack monster (also snagged bright blue there, baller) carries not one but two large water bottles perfectly with its 32 liters of glory. I’ll be honest and say I prob would crumble trying to carry that thing with everything we’re able to pack in. Total champ, and the bag is a game changer. Worth. every. penny.

Enter our Briggs & Riley Essential Carry-on Expandable Spinner. Jon’s Dad gifted this bad boy to us, and it’s the single suitcase we share for our travels. Very thoughtful gift and incredibly generous as well. It looks like there’s a monogramming option to amp up the gifting. Clutch for work and wedding trips with the built in garment bag that keeps our threads crisp.

We did get black, and while everyone may not be so fortunate so as to roll (spin?) around with this bag, you all know these carry-ons look miiiighty similar. Problem solved with this cute lil Margaret Vera luggage IDer! We were able to scoop up a custom one years ago on on the startup Scoutmob site. This was a fun gift for Jon that he loves. Also turned out to be a conversation starter with strangers who love the tag, esp when I’m traveling solo.

If we’re doing a cold-weather or hiking trip, we throw the bulky stuff/hiking boots in our years-old Herschel duffel. This handy duffel houses 43 liters of outdoorsy fun. No special rec to go out of your way for this purchase. We happened to have it laying around and don’t mind that it gets beat up and dirty at times. Easy to throw in the wash, so that’s a plus.

There you have it! We travel light, but the reality is that Jon shoulders the heavy stuff, so it feels like I’m simply floating through the airport with a lil Panamian buddy brimming my face. I was lucky enough to purchase mine from a kind Panamanian woman when we did an extended trip in that lovely land, but that Amazon purchase looks spot on. Hey, improvising is key.

Bring on the sunshine & adventure!

Are we there yet?!

How to master your in-flight temps & make that time flyyyyy.

Plane GIFs | GIFDB.com

My go tos for a comfy and entertaining flight.

  •  Costco ski socks. Super easy to throw on & off, wonderfully warm, and oh. so. soft. Warms those often frigid temps right up for a lovely nap.
  • Speaking of naps, this eye mask is super soft and keeps that light out of sight for a strong snooze.
  • A large scarf. Perfect blanket, and once you arrive, a great shawl or scarf to keep you toasty on a chilly evening or post-deep dive when my teeth are legitimately chattering.
  • Water bottle that you’ve already filled up at an airport filter station. Clutch. Yes, I know those of you who have seen my love for these… pipe down. Amazing hiking companion! I could go on. For days. This item is my third love.
  • Anti-bacterial gel and lotion to stay fresh and create a nice smell when you need one. These smell amazing!
  • Snacks! Again, those of you who have witnesses our homemade sandwich soiree know we don’t play. Pair these with a ziplock of cheez-its, and life is good
  • Love that I get to recommend a book here. Think Again by Adam Grant is a strong and awesome read. I do believe if everyone read this book, the turmoil our nation is facing would lessen. I’d go so far as to say the concepts in this book change my everyday.
  • Your tablet of choice. Don’t snooze on downloading Netflix or Prime shows & movies pre-flight!
Runabout tips
  • Grab these lil liquid holders for lotion and the like. Cute, economical, and environment friendly.
  • If you insist on smelling like Santal 33 even on vaca, grab these handy refillable perfume holders
Dry bag!

Stuff we love.

And why you might love it too.

  • Patagonia snap-T pullover. Layers are legit. Awesome for warmth, easy to slip on & off, and super cute.
  • Lululemon Define Jacket Luon. Another gift from Jon’s Dad, what! I wore this in Panama on a daily basis for early AM gym sessions, sunrise walks, frequent trips to the grocery store, you name it. The quality on this item makes me understand (ish) why people love the brand so much.
  • Earth Pak’s dry bag. There’s a story here. Heyy John & Kris! While we purchased this for dive and boat trips, the bag is super handy for any excursion. Def accompanies us for days and nights out in Paris, Lisbon, Istanbul, you name it. Did not expect this to be a nice lil city bag, and yet it is.
  • Speaking of diving, rash guards are the shit. Love this cute Patagonia find
  • Battery pack, charger cords, universal adapters (2), and our wifi device affectionally dubbed Mifi. All essential to stay plugged in while we work and travel. I know, I know, isn’t the point to unplug? One day, friends.
  • A good pair of sunnies. With my track record, I def don’t mean good as in expensive. Just an easy item to forget.
  • And al final, our toiletry game? Pretty simple and painless through security. 2 quart size zippies with the must haves: toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, razor, shampoo, conditioner, face wash.
